optical illusions coverSo glad you could join us for the kickoff of the Blog Party blog tour for Optical Illusions: Innovative Designs for the Modern Quilter!

Optical Illusions is a collection of nine quilts by nine modern quilters based on some kind of optical illusion. Each quilt will fool your eyes into thinking you are seeing something you are not. As a bonus, Angela Walters gives us tips and hints for quilting an optical illusion quilt.

How do we define a quilted optical illusion? Simply put, optical illusion quilts are graphic, bold and different from reality in some way. Our designers use gradations, 3-D effects, movement and odd angles to produce a dizzying array of patterns and shapes.

Starting tomorrow, and for the next two weeks, we’ll meet the designers and learn about the inspiration for their quilts.

Today’s guest blogger is Deb Rowden, who not only is a great quilter and blogger, but she also is the editor of Optical Illusions. Head to her blog, Deb Rowden’s Thrift Shop Quilts, where she will share some behind-the-scenes details from the book and reveal (finally!) the Mystery of the Dangling Feet. And don’t forget to enter her contest to win a fabric bundle from Kansas City Star Quilts author and designer Barbara Brackman.

But don’t leave us without entering our giveaway here! We’re giving away a free copy of the book in a random drawing. To enter, simply tell us your favorite color – and how you use it in quilting – in the comments section. One entry per person, please. Good luck!

The drawing has ended, and we have named a winner. Thanks to everyone who commented!
